Overview
Kakariki Green Ltd trading as Inventory Genius ("Inventory Genius", "we", "us", or "our") operates the Inventory Genius platform available at www.inventory-genius.com, our Shopify apps Inventory Genius and Bundle Genius, and any associated mobile or desktop applications (collectively, the "Service"). Kakariki Green Ltd trading as Inventory Genius is a company registered in New Zealand.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices available to you. Please also review our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the Service.
It is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and applicable United States privacy legislation, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
Information we collect

Order data synced from your Shopify store is stored as anonymised order references and line items (order number, date, products, quantities, values) for demand and sales analysis. We do not store your customers' names, email addresses, or shipping or billing addresses attached to those orders.
We do not collect any payment or billing information. All billing and payment processing is handled entirely by Shopify Inc. ("Shopify"). When you make a purchase, your payment details are collected and processed by Shopify in accordance with Shopify's Privacy Policy. We never have access to your credit card numbers, bank account details, or other financial information.
How we use your information
We use your information only for the purposes set out below:
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- To communicate with you — including account notifications, security alerts, and (with your consent) product updates.
- To monitor and improve the performance, security, and reliability of the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We will not use your personal information for a materially different purpose without first obtaining your consent, consistent with Information Privacy Principle (IPP) 10 of the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
AI features (Google Gemini)
Some features of the Service — such as demand forecasting in Inventory Genius, and bundle titles, descriptions, pricing suggestions, and product pack-shot images in Bundle Genius — are powered by Google's Gemini API. When you use these features, we send the relevant product and catalog data (product titles, types, descriptions, sales aggregates, and product images) to Google for processing. We never send your customers' personal information to Google.
We use Google's paid API tier, which under Google's terms does not use submitted data to train its models. AI-generated images are stored in our cloud storage and attached to your products. AI usage is metered per store to prevent abuse.
Legal basis for processing
Under New Zealand law (Privacy Act 2020, IPPs 1–4), we collect personal information directly from you and only to the extent necessary for a lawful purpose connected to the Service. For users in the United States, processing is based on the performance of our contract with you (the Terms of Service) and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service.
International data transfers
Inventory Genius is based in New Zealand. Our hosting infrastructure may be located in New Zealand, Australia, or the United States. If your data is transferred outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives a comparable level of protection, in accordance with IPP 12 of the Privacy Act 2020. New Zealand is recognised by many jurisdictions as providing an adequate level of data protection.
Data retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within 90 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes).
For our Shopify apps: if you install both Inventory Genius and Bundle Genius on the same store, they operate on one shared account and one shared data set for that store — data synced by either app is available to the other. When you uninstall an app, Shopify sends us a data-deletion request approximately 48 hours later and we delete the store's data within Shopify's required window. If the other app is still installed, the shared data set persists under that app until it too is removed. This sharing never crosses stores — data is strictly scoped to your shop.
Your rights
All users
Under the NZ Privacy Act 2020 (IPPs 6 and 7), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your account and personal information.
Additional rights for California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you also have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. (We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA.)
- Correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@inventory-genius.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally 20 working days under NZ law, 45 calendar days under the CCPA).
Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data in accordance with industry best practices.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by placing a prominent notice within the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
